Olive Garden Restaurant Recipes In The Comfort of Your Home

February 17th, 2009

Have you ever wanted to eat restaurant-quality food without paying through the nose (and still have to wait in line for two hours)? Nowadays, this is possible – more and more restaurant recipes are being revealed and published in cookbooks as well as the internet.

Why Should You Care?

Simple! The better quality cookbooks and recipe websites have clear and detailed instructions on how you can cook restaurant recipes, even the recipes of America’s famed Olive Garden Restaurant. That means even you can prepare these recipes at home, paying only for the cost of the ingredients.

Do you remember the last time you ate at a restaurant like Olive Garden? The atmosphere was great and the food tasted wonderful, didn’t it? But how about the one-hour drive and two-hour wait in line? What about the hassle of getting everyone together and in the car? I bet it was a major pain in the butt for you, too. Men always end up having to wait for the women, and then they have the gall to tell us, “Drive faster! We’re going to be late for our reservation!”

Getting your wife (or Mom) to cook Olive Garden’s secret recipes at home is sure starting to sound better and better, isn’t it? Heck, more than once I’ve whipped up a simple dish of pasta or even pizza for myself at home – especially when there’s a game I want to watch on ESPN. All I need to do is download recipes from my favorite recipe websites when I want to cook.

But Why Are All These Secret Recipes Being Exposed?

Well, it turns out that some of these secret recipes aren’t quite so secret after all! Some restaurants publish their “secret” recipes for publicity. After all, most people really eat at famous restaurants for the atmosphere… and to impress other people and be seen by their peers. Call it the gourmet version of keeping up with the Joneses. The famous restaurants know this, so they use this as an excuse to push their name in front of their potential customers.

The fact is, in a blindfold taste test, most normal people can’t tell the difference between Mom’s home-cooked pasta and the pasta from Olive Garden’s kitchen. Of course, if we see the two dishes side-by-side, we can tell that Olive Garden’s pasta is the one which looks a lot more presentable. The fancy garnishing is usually an obvious clue.

Sometimes a restaurant’s recipes are published by chefs who leave or get fired, sometimes a rival restaurant exposes the recipe, and quite often an experienced cook and food lover eats at Olive Garden and successfully reverse-engineers his favorite recipe.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether the recipe is word-for-word the same as what your favorite chef uses. What really matters is that when Mom cooks Olive Garden Restaurant recipes, it tastes the same as the restaurant. We really don’t mind that it doesn’t look as pretty, do we? As long as its cheaper and more convenient.

Do You Know Any Good Vegetarian Olive Garden Restaurant Recipes?

December 13th, 2008

I like eating meat – beef steak, pork chop, fried chicken, lamb chop, burgers, fish and chips, etc. But sometimes, salads and vegetarian pastas are a nice change of pace, especially when I’m too busy to exercise. A good collection of recipes, like Olive Garden Restaurant recipes should have a strong selection of both meat and non-meat dishes. I always enjoy Olive Garden’s Roast Pork Loin with Grapes and Wine, but the vegetarian White Bean Salad with Tomatoes and Pancetta is also excellent.

When I’m in a rush, Olive Garden’s version of spaghetti aglio olio is delicious and quick to cook. There are many other Olive Garden secret recipes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, which can be prepared and cooked in less than half-an-hour. I’m not much of a cook – in the past, my cooking exploits are limited to instant noodles with eggs – but these recipes are clear and simple to follow. I’ll admit that my first attempts at these recipes should have been done under supervision, but I learned from my mistakes.

After some practice, I am now able to identify the Olive Garden Restaurant recipes within my skill level. I have more than enough chances to eat the more complicated recipes at Mom’s and Sis’ place. Of course, when the family doesn’t feel like cleaning up, we still spend the two hour drive and wait at the nearest restaurant. The main difference I see in the meals is the presentation. The OG chefs can turn even their pasta into works of art, whereas Mom’s cooking (of the same pasta) look sort of pedestrian. As far as taste goes, my taste buds aren’t refined enough to tell the difference.

The vegetarian salads are a good choice to take to your friends’ pot luck party – unless everyone there is male. Most ladies seem to like salads, for some reason. For a party of bachelors, bringing along a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian pastas is the way to go. Just cook the pasta, use half for the vegetarian recipe and the other half for the meat-based recipes. The steps are quite simple, preparing the ingredients and cooking don’t take long. The results also look quite impressive – especially since you know at least one of your friends will be ordering takeout from Pizza Hut or Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Olive Garden Restaurant recipes are good for both vegetarians and meat-lovers. Regardless of your skill, you should be able to find something you enjoy cooking and eating.
